As managing director and co-owner of KeyDocs, Janneke Doolaard runs one of the most prominent production companies for documentary film of the Netherlands. After two small decades of learning the national and international documentary industry inside and out, KeyDocs is now in the ideal position to bring quality documentaries to a higher level. Under her guidance, the artistic vision of the filmmaker holds a central position, together with the ambition to offer her directors continuity.
After studying History, Janneke debuted in the film industry in 1997 at Egmond Film. She initiated Egmond Documentary, of which she would stay head of department until 2010. In those years she produced several ground breaking documentaries for cinema and television. About Canto (2011) by Ramon Gieling for example, was awarded with the Crystal Film, Diary of a Times Square Thief (2008) received nominations and prizes at numerous international film festivals.
KeyDocs experienced a great start in 2010 with the success of This is My Picture When I Was Dead. The film by Mahmoud al Massad, about the son of an assassinated PLO lieutenant, won several prizes and was exhibited at many festivals. Nowadays KeyDocs has gained fame with various documentaries; titles like Hill of Pleasures (Maria Ramos), The Man with 100 Children (Vuk Janic) and What The Cat Sees (Kim Brand). KeyDocs maintains close connections with the Dutch broadcasting companies and benefits from the excellent international network brought by her founders. Because the drive to produce on an international scale remains.
