Marios holds a B.A. in Film and Video Production, a B.Sc. in Broadcast Management and an M.F.A. in Film Production. Parallel to his studies in the US he worked on various professional productions there, gaining on hands experience. After returning to Cyprus in 2002, he landed a job with Seahorse Films, one of the largest production companies in Cyprus, as a Production Manager and later as a Producer. For three years he was involved in handling projects from all over the world, including NHK and TV Asashi (Japan), RSA Films, Discovery Channel (UK), RTL (Germany), Town Films (Greece), Kailush Pictures (India), Otto Films (Poland), Science Channel (USA), and a number of projects from Egypt, Kazakhstan, Romania, and Russia.
Having gained extensive experience, handling demanding projects and dealing with different national backgrounds and work ethics, Marios started his own production company, AMP Filmworks, in 2005, and turned his focus on the local market, producing Feature Films, Short Films and Documentaries.
Between 2009 and 2011 he was hired by the Cinema Sector of the Ministry of Education and Culture, whilst continuing producing for his own company in the private sector. His responsibilities at the Cinema Sector included monitoring film productions and contracts and evaluating film proposals and scripts for funding. In addition to that, he was responsible for various European Cinema Affairs, represented Cyprus at meetings of the EFADs (European Film Agency Directors), the EFARN (European Film Agency Research Network) and various other Audiovisual Conferences that took place in Europe. Furthermore, he attended various film festivals, promoted Cyprus as a film location destination and worked on new funding regulations and film tax incentive measures for the Cyprus Government.
In 2011, after two years of invaluable experience in the public Cyprus and European Cinema Sector, he returned fulltime to cinema production in order to fully focus on the development and expansion of his own company. Amongst other projects, he is currently the Executive Producer of “Home, Sweet Home”, a political satire that will start shooting in early 2012, and the Producer of three feature length films currently in development: “The Land of the Golden Apple”, a true story based on a novel about a crime committed in the 1980s in a Cypriot village; a comedy set in contemporary Cyprus entitled “The Wedding Plan”; and a children’s film called “Adventures on Aphrodite’s Island.”
